Large turnout for grand opening of Gilford Local Eatery

The new eatery is located on Shore Acres Drive by Kon Tiki Marina

It was a busy day for Gilford Local Eatery on Saturday as they held their official grand opening with Mayor Lynn Dollin, Coun. Rob Nicol, MP John Brassard, and MPP Andrea Khanjin.

The festivities kicked off at 1:30 p.m. with local musician Jojo from Barrie, who crooned the crowd on his guitar.

Customers were lined up to try out the new restaurant and support the local business.

Husband and wife Anthony and Sadie Rossano bought the vacant building located by Kon Tiki Marina on Shore Acres Drive last year, renovated it, and opened its doors just a few weeks ago.

Business has been steady so far with both locals and tourists. The couple has been extra busy, as they recently welcomed a new addition, baby daughter Rooney just six weeks ago.

They are grateful to have Anthony's parents helping run the restaurant as they get established.

They have also hired two local staff members for the busy summer season.

"Congratulations," said Mayor Dollin after the ribbon cutting. "And I'll be here for dinner quite often."

MP John Brassard was pleased to be at the grand opening.

"Anytime we get to celebrate the opening of a new business it's a great opportunity for the community and for our country as well," he said. "I just want to say congratulations and good luck, and you'll be seeing a lot of us around here I'm sure."

MPP Andrea Khanjin also congratulated the family on their new business, noting that the burgers are "great".

"We're happy to support," she said.

Ward Councillior Rob Nicol whose son Wyatt has already frequented the eatery many times, gave his official congratulations and welcome to the couple.

"Congratulations, this is great," he said.

"We are so grateful and thankful for all the community support," said Sadie, "We truly couldn't do it without friends and family and of course, without any of you here, this is what makes it happen and what makes it real."

"We wanted a place for the community to gather and this is a beautiful picture to see right now, thanks so much for showing up," added Anthony.

The eatery is open Thursday-Sunday and features pub-style foods, ice cream, and alcoholic beverages.
