CITY OF BARRIE

The City of Barrie and the County of Simcoe will be hosting a Commercial Trucking Job Fair on March 29, 2023, at the Allandale Recreation Centre (190 Bayview Dr., Barrie) from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

This event invites both existing drivers looking for work and individuals interested in beginning their trucking career to make connections with industry employers, hear from industry veterans, learn about accessible careers in the Canadian trucking industry, and discover what financial supports for training may be available.

“Barrie is full of incredible talent. The Commercial Trucking Job Fair is one way to connect this talent to local employers and address the growing labour shortage facing the Canadian trucking industry,” commented Stephannie Schlichter, director of economic and creative development at the City of Barrie. “Reduced financial barriers for training will help fill empty drivers’ seats and support continued economic growth.”

“Data collected from the County of Simcoe’s Work in Simcoe County website, workinsimcoecounty.ca, shows that there have been hundreds of local opportunities in trucking and logistics over the past several months. This event will be a great opportunity to connect area companies to job seekers and increase awareness of available training, resources and career pathways,” added Nancy Huether, director of economic development and airport services at the County of Simcoe.

Registration is not required to attend the Commercial Trucking Job Fair. For more information, visit barrie.ca/truckingjobfair.

Industry employers looking to participate can email [email protected] or call 705-728-9850 for details on how to get involved.
