WATCH: Gathering limits among public health measures taking effect Sunday

Social gatherings limited to 25 people outdoors, 10 indoors

New public health measures are going into effect this weekend.

Ontario Premier Doug Ford and chief medical officer of health Dr. Kieran Moore announced the strengthened public health measures to combat the highly transmissible Omicron variant.

Effective Sunday, Dec. 19, there will be 50 per cent gathering limits at indoor public settings such as restaurants, gyms, grocery stores and pharmacies.

For informal social gatherings, there's a limit of 10 people indoors and 25 people outdoors.

The full details of today's announcement are available here.

In response to the Omicron variant, Ford announced on Tuesday that booster shots will be rolled out to all people 18 years and old who received their second dose at least three months (84 days) ago.

Since then, the Ontario Science Table released new projections, saying a "circuit breaker" is needed to blunt the impact of the Omicron variant.
