Canada on track to have 6 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine by end of March says PM

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau looked to allay the anxiety of many Canadians on Feb. 5, in the wake of delays in the COVID-19 vaccine rollout.

Speaking Friday morning. the prime minister reassured Canadians, calling the delays "a hurdle" and stating that the country has planned accordingly and is still on track to roll out six million vaccine doses by the end of Q1.

"The turbulence week over week t that we're seeing is a concern and we're watching it closely and we're staying on it," said Trudeau.

"But let me reassure people that we are still very much on track as promised to get those six million doses by the end of March, because that's what the vaccine CEOs keep telling me."

Trudeau said that the country is still on track to hit its vaccination targets, with 20 million doses of the vaccine being distributed by spring, and having all Canadians who wish to receive the vaccine, able to do so by September.

"We are focused on keeping you and your family safe every step of the way," said Trudeau.

"Our team is in constant contact with the top people involved, as well as with our counterparts in Europe. Over the past weeks I've personally spoken with the CEOs of Pfizer and Moderna and this week I was on the phone with Pascal Soriot (CEO) of Astrazeneca and they've assured me that they will fulfil all of their commitments to Canada."
