For the past 23 years, CIBC has been the sponsor of the Run for the Cure, the leading fundraiser for Breast Cancer research and advocacy.

Every year, an estimated 15,000 Team CIBC members join other runners and walkers, to express their support, and help ensure that breast cancer can be beaten.

This year’s CIBC Run for the Cure 1K and 5K runs and walks will be taking place on Sunday, Oct. 6, at close to 60 locations across the country – including, locally, Alliston and the City of Barrie.

A number of staff members from the Bradford branch of CIBC will be among those participating.

“I do it every year,” said Veronica Mato, customer service representative. “I’ve been with the branch nine years, and I’ve done it every year.”

Mato and her daughter will be taking part in the Barrie-Orillia Run for the Cure, which starts and finishes at Heritage Park in Barrie.

In addition to personal fundraising and pledges, the Bradford branch has organized a series of fundraisers leading up to Sunday’s Run for the Cure – including bake sales, a barbecue, and a garage sale.

On Wednesday, the branch held a Book Sale and sale of donated sports scarves, with donation jars set up at the tellers’ wickets, for any customers who wanted to support the cause.

The Run for the Cure takes place rain or shine, raising money for the Canadian Cancer Society. Last year, the CCS funded $40 million in cancer research, living up to this year’s motto: “I promise to make Breast Cancer beatable.”
