Markham retirement home charged for health violation

Regional Municipality of York health inspectors charged a retirement home for a public health violation last week.

Glynnwood Retirement Home in Markham, 7700 Bayview Ave., was charged with failure to ensure facility surfaces are sanitized as necessary, according to the report for inspections made Feb. 12 to 18 by York Region Community and Health Services, health protection division. 

During the compliance inspection on Feb. 16, inspectors flagged the retirement home for failing to cover food to prevent contamination and failing to ensure food contact surfaces are properly maintained and sanitized.

Food handler education was carried out as a result and the retirement home was charged.

The inspection reports represent the condition of the restaurants at the date and time of the inspection only and does not guarantee or warrant the condition of the food premises at any other time, the public health unit states.
