Matchbook found at “criminally suspicious” Moore Street house fire

Police asking Bradford West Gwillimbury residents for help tracing matchbook’s origins

South Simcoe police is seeking the public’s help after discovering a matchbook at 108 Moore St. in Bradford West Gwillimbury, where a fire that tore through the historic home on Canada Day was deemed “criminally suspicious.”

The home was just weeks from getting a heritage designation, which BWG council approved on Tuesday.

Police released a photo of the Pall Mall matchbook on Friday in hopes of tracing its origins.

Investigators are asking any stores or individuals who have or use this particular brand to contact police.

No one was injured in the blaze that took place between 3-4 a.m. on July 1.

The damage estimate is still unknown, according to police.

The Ontario Fire Marshal is investigating, and police are still waiting to get a report from the fire marshal’s office and the Centre of Forensic Sciences.

Anyone with information about this brand of matchbook or has information about the fire is asked to call South Simcoe Police Service Criminal Investigation
Bureau at 905-775-3311 or 705-436-2141, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
