Ian Hamilton, author of the Ava Lee and Uncle Chow Tung book series.

Author Ian Hamilton is coming to East Gwillimbury to speak about his newest book in a special event on May 24.

The Canadian author is known for both the Ava Lee and Uncle Chow Tung book series. His most recent work is a stand-alone book called Bonnie Jack

The novel follows the story of Jack, who was abandoned by his mother in a movie theatre in Glasgow as a boy and goes back as an adult to track down his long-lost sister and uncovers a number of uncomfortable truths along the way. It is based on Hamilton's father's own origin story.

He will be speaking about this book and doing a signing at the in-person author event at the East Gwillimbury Civic Centre.

The event is hosted by the Friends of the East Gwillimbury Public Library, a non-profit organization that raises funds for the library.

This will be the group's 60th author event. Past speakers have included Mary Lawson, Martha Schabas, Lisa Moore and Linden MacIntyre.

It's the second time Hamilton has been the guest author, returning after a presentation in 2019.

Tickets are on sale online and the $20 cost includes admission to the event, the book signing and refreshments. Doors open at 7 p.m. on May 24 and the event runs from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.
