Hello BWG, and welcome to Natasha’s Nook, a column dedicated to all things fun and exciting at the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library.

I am the (fairly) new marketing and communications co-ordinator here, and happy to share with you each week all the exciting things happening inside this wonderful, collaborative space.

One of the first things I always did when I moved to a new town or city was visit my local library to get a library card.

You may think libraries are just for books — and, yes, we do have lots of those to browse, read and borrow — but libraries are so much more than that.

Libraries are community hubs, offering services, programs and materials for all.

It’s not just a library; it’s a study space, a meeting spot, a council chamber, an art gallery, a market space, a theatre, a yoga studio, a classroom, a safe space, and an escape.

My goal for this column is to highlight and share with you not just books to read from our collection, but the amazing things going on inside and how to get involved and take advantage of all we have to offer.

Spring programming

Here at the library, we have been busy working away planning and preparing for all our March break and spring programming.

Now that pandemic restrictions have eased, we are able to provide more robust programs at larger capacities.

Most recently, we changed our storytimes to a drop-in model, eliminating the need for registrations. We have found this to be successful with our patrons and their littles and will continue to offer this throughout our April and May storytime programs.

Check out our March break schedule here and keep an eye on our website and social media for our upcoming spring program schedule.

New: BWG Indigenous-led planning committee

This week, in partnership with the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, we put a call out to the community for those interested in joining our new Indigenous-led planning committee of local Indigenous residents and/or Indigenous-led organizations who can help with the planning of events or displays around town for National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21.

This is something new we are trying in hopes of sharing in the stories of our Indigenous ancestors as we continue our journey to reconciliation.

Meetings will be held once a month from April to June with an honorarium provided.

If this is something you are interested in being part of, contact our manager of cultural programming, David di Giovanni, at [email protected] for more information.

Stay tuned for next week’s column, where we will explore the new cloudLibrary digital library of ebooks and audiobooks.
