The Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library is welcoming summer with our TD Summer Reading Club kickoff party this weekend.

Stop by the library any time between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 24, and pick up your summer reading kits. It will be a blast for the whole family with prizes, giveaways, and more, including a draw for tickets to Canada’s Wonderland.

With the TD Summer Reading Club, kids can track their reading and access free ebooks and activities online all summer. The more books read, the more chances to win some of our amazing top prizes like tickets to the CNE and Reptilia.

The TD Summer Reading Club is Canada’s biggest bilingual summer reading program for kids of all ages, all interests, and all abilities with more than 2,000 public libraries across Canada taking part. It celebrates Canadian authors, illustrators and stories, and is designed to inspire kids to explore the fun of reading their way — the key to building a lifelong love of reading.

“The TD Summer Reading Club program is one of our most popular programs of the year,” says library programmer Bailey Shaw. “There is always something for everyone, and the kids get really excited to fill their reading logs and show us their progress.”

Whether it’s comic books, graphic novels, fiction, non-fiction, magazines, ebooks, or audiobooks, every page counts. And you can participate from anywhere — at home, at the cottage, at the library or wherever the summer takes you.

The TD Summer Reading Club is great for kids who are looking for a challenge and like to earn rewards, with different badges awarded after reading a certain number of books. (One of them even looks like a Pokéball.)

From Friday, July 7 until Friday, Aug. 11, the library will also be hosting weekly themed activities as part of the TD Summer Reading Club for kids of all ages:

10 to 10:30 a.m.: three to six years old

10:45 to 11:15 a.m.: seven to 10 years old

11:30 to 12:00 p.m.: 11 to 12 years old

July 7: Treasure hunt

July 14: Amazing animals

July 21: Dinosaurs

July 28: Mystery

Aug. 4: Backyard explorers

Aug. 11: Outer space

Save the date for our TD Summer Reading Club closing party on Wednesday, Aug. 16 from 1 to 3 p.m. Participate in activities, a scavenger hunt, and get in any last-minute book reporting.

Teens and adults, we didn’t forget about you. You can take part in our new Clue Summer Reading Challenge. If you’re a board game fan, you’ll love this. Uncover clues as you complete the reading challenges in each room.

“This one is unique and fun and gives people a chance to read something they may not normally read,” says Shaw. “It’s all for fun, with some cool prizes in the end.”
