The Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library is celebrating Seniors Month.

I can’t believe June is already here. Time seems to fly during the warmer months, while the colder ones seem to drag on endlessly.

As we embrace the beautiful weather, the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library has an exciting lineup of events. In celebration of Seniors Month, we’ve partnered with the BWG Leisure Centre to organize a series of enjoyable activities for our vibrant 55-plus community.

Kicking off the month is our highly anticipated nutrition talk event on Wednesday, June 7, from 12 to 1 p.m. Join us as we sit down with wellness facilitator Lindsay Reid to delve into the secrets of healthy living and nutrition. As a bonus, we’ve curated a collection of engaging books on fitness, health, and diet for you to peruse and borrow.

Later in June, we have our delightful Walk this Way event, offering a low-impact, easy-paced walk around the library grounds. Following the invigorating walk, we’ll gather in the Zima Room for some light refreshments. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, June 20 at 11:30 a.m., and remember that this is a pre-registered event. You can secure your spot by registering online directly here or by sending us an email at [email protected].

Don’t forget we have our monthly Next Chapter Café drop-in meetings for older adults on the fourth Wednesday of every month from 1 to 2:30 p.m. where we enjoy conversation, board games, and brain games.

We understand seniors lead dynamic lives, juggling various schedules and commitments. Some continue to work, while others embrace retirement or care for their loved ones. This stage of life grants you the opportunity to focus on yourself and pursue activities you never had time for before. Although retirement may still be a distant goal for me, I eagerly anticipate attending such enriching events in the future.

Engaging in activities and staying busy play a pivotal role in maintaining overall health. We firmly believe involvement in our community promotes a sense of well-being. It’s truly inspiring to witness the outgoing and engaged seniors who contribute so much to our community.

While it is essential for everyone to prioritize physical exercise and proper nutrition, it becomes even more crucial for seniors. At the BWG library, we strive to provide a welcoming space that fosters social connections and keeps our seniors actively engaged. In addition to our events, we are proud to offer an array of resources and books for leisure, self-improvement, knowledge, and entertainment.

To me, age is merely a number that doesn’t define one’s vitality. You truly embody youthfulness when you prioritize feeling fantastic and maintaining good health. I wish you all health and happiness and hope to see you at one of our events this month.

’Til next week, happy reading.
