Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library staff are shown during their holiday party last year.

This will be my last column for 2023, so I will make it short and sweet.

I want to invite families to ring in the new year with us Saturday, Dec. 30 from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. for our Noon Year’s Eve Party.

I know we’re still in the midst of the holiday season, but it’s never too early to plan ahead. While we’ll be closed on New Year’s Eve, we’re hosting a delightful get-together in the Zima Room and Atrium for children and families. Expect snacks, activities, music, dancing, and a countdown to 2024 — a joyous celebration for the whole family. Feel free to dress your best and capture the moment with some selfies.

Don’t forget to tag us @bwglibrary.

What are your goals for the new year?

Here at the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library, we have an exciting lineup of activities for you this winter, including your regularly scheduled story times, book clubs, and chess nights, as well as an artisan market featuring BIPOC artists, a February Blues Festival, and more. Check out our website for all the details.

Of course, a new year wouldn’t be complete without fresh reading goals and our annual Winter Reading Challenge. This year, we present two challenges: Winter Reading Bingo and, introducing a new one, Read for Your Ward. Pick up a bingo card at the service desk starting Dec. 27, fill in a line or four corners, and submit by Feb. 28.

We encourage all residents to participate in our community-wide reading challenge, Read for Your Ward. Bradford has seven wards, and the more you read, the more points you earn for your ward’s team. The ward with the most time logged will win a special prize. Pick up a tracking sheet at the service desk starting Dec. 27 and submit it by March 31.

All right, folks. That’s all from me.

’Til next year, happy reading.
