Ontario reports 324 new COVID cases Wednesday

Today's report also includes 204 recoveries and three deaths

Public Health Ontario reported 324 new COVID cases and three deaths in today's update (Aug. 11). 

The report includes 204 new recoveries. 

There have been 15 new hospitalizations and two admissions to intensive care units since yesterday's report.

The August 11 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 2,611 active, lab-confirmed cases, up from 2,494 yesterday.
  • 108 COVID-positive people are currently hospitalized in Ontario.
  • There are 108 patients in intensive care units with COVID-related illness (of those, 29 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • 70 people are on ventilators due to COVID-related illness (of those, 18 no longer test positive for COVID-19).
  • The province reported 24,772 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a 1.7 per cent positivity rate. 
  • There are 8,233 tests still awaiting processing, and the provincial labs have processed 16.7 million tests to date.
  • Of the new cases reported today, 72 are from Toronto, 30 cases are from Peel, five are from Simcoe-Muskoka, five are from Grey-Bruce, and 31 are from York Region.
  • Today's cases include 82 individuals aged 19 and under, 142 people between 20 and 39 years old, 78 people between 40 and 59 years old, 18 people between 60 and 79 years old, and six people over 79 years old.

Vaccination status

The vaccination breakdown for new cases is as follows: 

  • New cases* include 234 unvaccinated, 32 partially vaccinated, and 58 fully vaccinated. 
  • Hospitalized (non-ICU) cases include 32 unvaccinated, 37 partially vaccinated, and six fully vaccinated.
  • ICU cases include zero unvaccinated, seven partially vaccinated, and five fully vaccinated. 

*Vaccination status numbers may not match the daily COVID case reports because of missing health card information. The province has stated its vaccination status reporting should improve over time. 

Today's vaccination rate update includes:

  • 48,307 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered yesterday.
  • 19,998,744 doses of vaccine have been administered.
  • In total, 9,418,632 people have been fully vaccinated.

Total case counts and rates

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 553,449 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 541,426 recoveries and 9,412 deaths.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,756.3 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 12.9 cases per 100,000 people, which is up by 40.2 per cent from last week.

Simcoe-Muskoka

Yesterday, the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit reported 12 new COVID cases.

There are currently 64 active cases in the region. 

There is one person from Simcoe County hospitalized with COVID-19-related illnesses.

Since the start of the pandemic, the local health unit has confirmed 12,439 cases of COVID-19 with 12,120 of those cases recovered and 255 cases ending in death.

Last week, the case incidence rate in Simcoe-Muskoka was 6.3 cases per 100,000 people over seven days, which is up by 40 per cent compared to the week of July 26 to Aug. 1.
