Outdoor Movies bring families together under the stars (8 photos)

Perfect weather made the second of four Outdoor Movie Nights a perfect family event; 'There was a great turnout'

Families arrived early for the Bradford Outdoor Movie on Thursday Night – a showing of the Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.

They brought their lawn chairs and blankets and staked out a space on the west lawn even before the giant screen was inflated.

There was plenty to do, while they waited for dusk to fall and the screening to begin. There were outdoor games like soccer, hula hoops and a giant game of checkers; free face-painting by Bling!, and plenty of snacks from The Munchies Concession Stand and Sweet B’s, La MexiCanada Restaurant, Mister Treats ice cream cones and sundaes. There was even popcorn, free for a donation to the Lifesaving Society.

The screening was the second in a series of four outdoor movie nights in Bradford.

The first, on Tuesday, was forced indoors, to the shelter of the Bradford Community Centre, due to stormy weather. But on Thursday, the weather was perfect – the skies clear, the humidity dissipated by earlier rain.

And on both evenings, said Bethany Kuboniwa, Leisure Event & Marketing Co-ordinator, “There was a great turnout.”

Kuboniwa is keeping her fingers crossed for the final two Outdoor Movie Nights.

On Tuesday, Aug. 20, the Town will show the animated feature, Wall-E, with activities that include balloon twisting and games, beginning at 8 p.m.. The movie screening takes place at dusk.

On Thursday, Aug. 22, the movie is Aladdin, with Will Smith. Special activities start earlier on this final evening, with special guests BWG Fire & Emergency Services, a fire truck and Sparky the Fire Dog arriving at 7 p.m..

At every Outdoor Movie event, snacks and treats are available, from The Munchies Concession Stand, Sweet B’s, Mister Treats Ice Cream, and La MexiCanada Restaurant.

Outdoor Movie Nights are sponsored by Summerlyn Dental, which has partnered with the town since the first movie night. The supporting sponsor on Aug. 22 will be Oxford Learning.
