The Second Annual Halloween Retro Video Dance is happening on Saturday Nov. 2 at the Portuguese Cultural Centre.

This is the second music video dance party organized by The Friends of Fred Committee, who are a group of nine local mothers trying to raise money for their children’s grade eight end-of-year school trip.

One of the mothers on the committee, Rosi Martin, says the end of the school year proves to be an expensive month - sports fees, summer camps - that make it difficult to budget for an overnight trip.

“The experience (of the trip) is such a lifelong memory for the students who are leaving elementary school and who won’t be with this group of friends quite in the same way again,” she explained.

Last year's trip was a three night camping adventure in Muskoka, and will be the same for this year.

The committee's first event was held in January with a '90's theme that brought out 200 people, raising just over $7,000.

“We have really enjoyed the process of working together and seeing the events come to be the success they are,” said Martin.

Martin says their fundraiser is a great way for parents to come together and have some fun away from the kids.

“We are choosing to organize this fundraiser on our own, away from the school, because who wants to sell more chocolate or cards? We all need a night out!”

The event will feature dinner, a music video dance party with hits from the ‘80s and ‘90s era, as well as a cash bar, silent auction and raffle.

This year’s dinner is being provided by local Portuguese restaurant, Poleiro’s.

“Because the dance falls just after Halloween, the decor will be everything Halloween and we are welcoming costumes,” said Martin.

Tickets for the event are $40 each or $300 for a table of eight.

The event takes place on Saturday Nov. 2 at 7:30 p.m at the Portuguese Cultural Centre.

Tickets can be purchased in person at the Holland Marsh Farmer's Market or Kidergy or online via the Facebok event page here.

The committee is also looking for business sponsors for silent auction or raffle prize donations. Anyone interested in participating can email the committee at [email protected]
