Plants, home-baking and more for Mother's Day (9 photos)

'You always have room for plants and sweets!'

With the return of the sun and warmer weather, a number of community events also returned, just in time for Mother’s Day.

At the Bond Head Community Hall, members of the Bond Head-Bradford Garden Club brought perennials culled from their gardens, houseplants, flowering pansy baskets and home baking for the club’s annual Mother’s Day Plant and Bake Sale.

This year’s organizers, co-presidents Giselle Gutsche and Mikki Nanowski, were hoping that the sale would attract not only long-time residents but newcomers and young families,  to “grow” an interest in gardening.

“I’m thinking about the legacy of the club,” said Nanowski, as members arranged plants on the long tables outside the hall. “Plants are interesting in themselves!”

And as the club noted, “You always have room for plants and sweets!”

Up the road in Innisfil, in the village of Churchill, members of the Churchill United Church hosted a Bake Sale, Tea Room and White Elephant Sale – a return to in-person fundraising after months of COVID closures.

Pies, loaves, cookies, squares and smiling faces greeted shoppers, who came from as far away as Toronto to stock up on home-made treats.

Upcoming plant sales:
