NOTTAWASAGA - The Nottawasaga Detachment, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), have received 18 calls so far this summer regarding domestic pets, particularly dogs, being left in vehicles.

A Doctor of Veterinarian Medicine with a local clinic advised police that when animals are left in vehicles, even for ten minutes, a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius can cause swelling of the brain or heat stroke. These can be lethal to the animal.

OPP would like to remind our community to please leave your animal at home during these warm sunny days.

We also ask that if you observe an animal in a vehicle that seems to be in distress to please notify police, by calling 1-888-310-1122.

Please protect your pet.
