Police take 'stalk' of damage after celery spilled across highway

Commuters on Highway 400 are asked to pack their patience while crews work to clean up spilled celery in the southbound lanes near Highway 9

Commuters along Highway 400 will have to wait a little bit longer to hit happy hour after a long day of work.

Aurora OPP are currently at the scene of a tractor trailer rollover in the southbound lanes of Highway 400 just south of Highway 9, which lead to all lanes of the highway being covered with celery from the incident.

“As you can see, celery has been sprayed all over the highway. Clean up crews are working to ensure the safety of motorists,” said a member of OPP’s Highway Safety Division in a post on X around the noon hour.

Traffic is being diverted onto Hwy 9 while clean up continues, according to police, who noted the ramp from Highway 9 eastbound to Highway 9 is also closed. The highway is expected to be closed for several hours and police are thanking drivers for their patience
