Purrfect weekend to adopt a cat at Bradford Pet Valu (8 photos)

The two pairs of kittens were lapping up the attention on Saturday afternoon at Pet Valu's cat adoption event

Four furry friends made an appearance at Bradford Pet Valu this weekend for an adopt-a-thon by Georgina Feral Cat Committee (GFCC).

Two pairs of bonded kittens sat in their pet playpens at the front of the store Saturday afternoon, while capturing the attention (and hearts) of customers and potential adoptees.

Foster moms Kathryn Giordano and Julie Kramer were on-site to answer questions about the friendly felines and the adoption process. The ladies are both from Aurora and enjoy volunteering their time with the committee.

Giordano is currently fostering brother and sister Pickles and Peaches who were born at the end of April and found in a barn in the Keswick area. They both have beautiful hazel eyes, soft fur, and love to purr. Pickles is black and white, and Peaches, grey and white. They love to play and chase, and usually sleep cuddled next to one another.

Brothers Leonardo and Benjamin are currently fostered by Kramer. They are beautiful brown tabbies, with medium-length hair. The pair were born in early April and found in a parking lot in Orillia, with four other siblings with their mother.

The GFCC has held many adoption events at the Bradford store in the past, but just recently started back up again after a long break during the pandemic.

The GFCC is a volunteer organization that are funded by private donations.

"Last year (we did) nothing at all (events)," said Kramer, "even fundraising is different."

Kramer says as the pandemic wanes, adoptions have been slow.

"COVID made a lot of people want to adopt but there seems to be now a lull because now everything's open and living life," said Giordano.

"I think people are worried they can't put the time in and they don't want to commit," added Kramer.

Most of the adoptables at the GFCC are kittens, but there are a few older cats also ready for a 'Fur'ever home.

Kramer says their organization is often contacted from all over the area when cats are found and in need of care and re-homing.

Included in all adoption fees at GFCC are spayed/neutered, deflead and dewormed if needed, microchipped, and vaccinated.

Anyone interested in adopting the kittens can fill out an application form online here

Unable to adopt? The GFCC is always looking for foster parents and volunteers.

"They're always looking for more (volunteers) because we have so many fosters and cats," said Kramer.
