Resistance is not futile for National Health and Fitness Day

Several events this week kick off Recreation and Parks Month in Bradford West Gwillimbury.

June 2 was National Health and Fitness Day — and what better way to begin the day than with bootcamp?

Participants signed up to run laps, hoist kettlebells, and push their muscles to the limit, as instructors Enrico Mazzone, Dave Falconi, Helen Taucar, Cynthia Chen, and supervisor Stephanie Uren yelled encouragement.

It was all held outdoors on the grassy west lawn between the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library and BWG Leisure Centre.

There were other free classes offered at the leisure centre, and residents could also participate in Zumba and outdoor yoga.

The event kicked off Recreation and Parks Month in Bradford West Gwillimbury.

Upcoming events include:

June 4: Outdoor kettlebells, 7 p.m. on the west lawn. Free for members, or $11 for adults, $9 for students and seniors

June 5, June 12, June 26: Toonie Tuesday leisure swim, 7-8:30 p.m. at the leisure centre

June 8: Family Fun Fridays, from 5:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. each Friday in June, in the gym. Cost is $5 per family

June 9: The Mayor’s Walk for Health at Scanlon Creek on National Trails Day
