Sabella serves up fine Italian cuisine

New restaurant and bar in downtown Bradford West Gwillimbury features art by local artists on its walls

European modern design, an award-winning chef, and fine Italian and Mediterranean cuisine – Sabella restaurant and bar offers a casual-dining experience with continental flair.

The Barrie Street restaurant, the brainchild of Sahar Amini and husband Adel Akhavan, had its grand opening this week, with a ribbon cutting and a sampling of some of the menu items.

Chef Issam Elbouzidi has won medals in culinary competitions from Dubai to Paris. Issam brought out platter after platter of eggplant marinara, calamari, pesto alfredo with shrimp, penne vodka, ravioli, and lasagna for the guests to try.

“We have everything – salmon, steak,” and even pizza and crispy chicken wings for those looking for lighter fare, Elbouzidi said.

As for the desserts, a display case highlighted La Rocca cakes – including tiramisu, and New York cheesecake – as if they were precious gems.

Amini and Akhavan’s guests included family members, but also representatives of the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury, both staff and council; Bradford Board of Trade; and Successful Women Always Networking (S.W.A.N.).

York-Simcoe MP Scot Davidson and MPP Caroline Mulroney were unable to attend, but local representative Carol Collier delivered their messages of congratulations during the formal opening.

Representing the Bradford Board of Trade, Ryan Charron also welcomed the new venture to Bradford.

“Thank you for putting your business right here, in the downtown,” Charron said – a view echoed by Mayor Rob Keffer and members of council.

“The décor – how inviting it looks here,” said Keffer, noting that works of art by least five local artists hang on the walls, and that the entertainment was provided by local singer Paul Rumbolt.

“You’ve done such a wonderful job,” said Coun. Gary Baynes, chair of the town’s Downtown Revitalization Committee.

“We saw many locations, but we went to Bradford and found people are so friendly,” said Amini, explaining why the couple decided to locate in the municipality. “From the heart, thank you!”

After a ribbon cutting in front of the restaurant, the guests went back inside for more food and music.

Sabella casual restaurant and bar offers a wine bar, table seating, modern décor and fine food, at 23 Barrie St., as well as takeout, delivery and catering. Downstairs, S2 Sabella Social offers a more casual party room. For more information, contact 905-551-8800.
