Say goodbye to winter at the Danube Centre - for a day (10 photos)

Summer salads, summer hats and t-shirts, at Summer in January.

Summer hats, tropical print shirts, sunglasses – BWG Seniors Association members said goodbye to winter, at least temporarily, at the Summer in January luncheon on Thursday.

There may have been snow on the ground, a brisk northerly breeze, and predictions of more of the same in the forecast, but inside the Danube Seniors Leisure Centre there were flowers and summer fashions at every table, as members prepared to enjoy a buffet of cold meats, salads and dessert.

“We have ham, roast pork, roast turkey, potato salad, bean salad, coleslaw, carrot salad, jellied salads,” said president Elke Pitkin. “And buns and cranberry sauce!”

The capacity crowd had as much fun showing off their summer wear, and challenging each other to bubblegum bubble-blowing contests, as they did sitting down to the summery lunch.

Coming up at the Danube Seniors Leisure Centre, 715 Simcoe Rd. in Bradford: This Saturday, Jan. 25 is Movie Day. The movie ‘Yesterday’ is being screened at 1 p.m. All are welcome - movie, popcorn and refreshments only $3.
