Schomberg McDonald's cookie sales will aid Easter Seals this weekend

Special Cookies for Kids campaign will run Oct. 15-17, at the Schomberg McDonald's only

The McDonald’s Restaurant in Schomberg has embraced a policy of community involvement, even through the pandemic.

The restaurant has raised funds for the local food bank and on McHappy Day, it was “tops in our market,” says General Manager Vanessa Breen. On McHappy Day, money was raised for Ronald McDonald House and local charity, the We Believe in Abby Foundation.

We Believe in Abby, named for 5-year-old Abigail Grace Eveson who succumbed to a rare congenital heart condition in 2018, raises money for Sick Kids Hospital and the local community.

The Schomberg restaurant is now gearing up for another fundraiser. This weekend, from Oct. 15 through Oct. 17, all the proceeds from its soft-bake cookie sales will be going to We Care-Canada.

We Care (formerly Friends of We Care) is a charity launched by the food service and hospitality sectors that raises funds to send differently-abled children to Easter Seals camps.

The inaugural Cookies for Kids campaign for We Care at the Schomberg McDonald’s restaurant was the result of a collaboration last year between We Care fundraiser Brent Morning, and franchise owner/operator Rory MacKinnon, with the full and enthusiastic support of restaurant staff.

That event raised $1,000 for Easter Seals kids.

Breen and employee Cam Gilmore, who is in charge of baking, are hoping to beat that this time around.

The cookies come in two flavours, says Gilmore – “Chocolate Chunk and Brownie, and they’re really good!” He will be “baking them all, bagging them all, getting them all ready” throughout the three-day fundraiser.

Cookies are available for 2 for $1.49, six for $3.99, 12 for $7.49, plus tax, and can come boxed in their own cookie carry-all.

Morning thankd the staff for once again raising funds for We Care and Easter Seals. “Thanks to the McDonald’s crew for making this happen!”

“It’s just a matter of getting the message out there,” said Breen.

With customers getting delicious cookies, and the money going to charity, it’s a ‘win-win.’

The Schomberg McDonald’s is located at 65 Dillane Drive, just off 27 in the village of Schomberg.
