Senior staff assessing local projects amid COVID-19 crisis

Decisions will be made next week on which projects will proceed, say officials

One of the recommendations of the BWG Downtown Revitalization Committee for 2020 was the immediate replacement of some broken and unsightly sections of sidewalk in downtown Bradford.

But the global COVID-19 pandemic has forced big changes in the way the town operates - and what projects will be going ahead.

Director of Community Services Terry Foran indicated that senior management will be meeting next week to determine what planned work needs to proceed and what needs to be put off, “in order to protect people and be fiscally responsible.”

Residents are assured that urgent repairs to infrastructure will be made, as necessary.

The Town is also taking steps to ensure that staff are protected while they are on the job.

“Crews in Parks, Recreation, Water/Wastewater and Transportation have been separated by location and shift, so that no more than five people are at any location at any one time, and there is never more than one employee in a vehicle unless it’s necessary for employee safety given the nature of the work,” stated the response from the Town.

“All crews have been given the required materials and supplies… to perform their duties safely.”

Administration staff continue to work from home, on a rotating basis, and buildings remain closed to the public.

“All the recommended protocols for distancing and sanitization in the workplace are being followed,” the town noted, while a growing list of services are available online.
