On Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023, the Nottawasaga Foundation made a significant gift by delivering their seventh instalment of $100,000 towards their generous $1-million commitment to the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation (SMHF).

In honour of their 25th anniversary in 2017, the Nottawasaga Foundation and the Biffis family pledged a total of $1 million, in support of the Stevenson Memorial Hospital Foundation’s $43-million ‘Because of you, we can’ campaign. This pledge helps to contribute to the hospital’s redevelopment project and addresses crucial equipment and technology needs.

This generous gift was generated through the Nottawasaga Foundation’s golf fundraising event held this past summer. This achievement was made possible thanks to the efforts of corporate sponsorships and individual donations.

“We are proud to continue our annual donation commitment of $100,000 as part of our $1-million pledge, supporting redevelopment, equipment, and technology as part of Stevenson’s ‘Because of you, we can’ campaign,” declared the Nottawasaga Foundation.

For many years, the Biffis family has been a dedicated supporter of the hospital. Their involvement in projects such as the reopening of the obstetrics/birthing unit in 2008 and supporting digital mammography and maternal child advisory programs speaks volumes to the dedication they have in support of community health care.

“Thank you to the Nottawasaga Foundation and the Biffis family for continuing to support our hospital, year after year,” says Jody Levac, president and CEO, Stevenson Memorial Hospital. “We have a much-needed hospital expansion on the horizon that is dependent on community donations. Contributions like these are so critical to our hospital and the success of our redevelopment project, which will revitalize our space and provide the health-care facility our community needs and deserves.”

“The Nottawasaga Foundation and the Biffis family consistently take a lead in advancing our mission in fundraising for Stevenson Memorial Hospital. Their generosity continues to play a role in the community in helping to provide quality health care close to home,” stated Mary Thomas, CEO of SMHF.

The $43-million ‘Because of you, we can’ campaign is the largest campaign in SMHF’s history. Donations received help purchase essential equipment, upgrade technology, and complete critical renovations essential to the transformation and redevelopment of Stevenson Memorial Hospital. The hospital’s redevelopment plan includes a new emergency department that will triple in size. With an emergency department built to manage 7,000 visits a year that currently manages close to 40,000 per year, along with a growing population in south Simcoe and surrounding communities, this redevelopment is needed today and for future generations.
