As restrictions across the province ramp up in the face of the growing coronavirus pandemic, Southlake Regional Health Centre has opened a COVID-19 assessment centre, restricted access to the hospital and tightened its visitor policy.

All patients and visitors will be screened for symptoms and travel history before entering the hospital.

Based on screening results, some visitors may not be allowed to enter the hospital. Those requiring medical attention may be directed to either the emergency department or COVID-19 assessment centre.

Access to the Newmarket hospital has been restricted to the east main entrance for staff, patients and visitors to facilitate the screening process.

Visiting hours have been reduced from 24 hours to 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and limited to one person per patient, including support person.

Visitors may be banned from high-risk areas.
