'Spirited' fun for Halloween, during Bradford High's Halloweek

Students will get into the 'spirit' of Halloween, at BDHS

Some people celebrate Halloween on Oct.31.

Bradford District High School celebrates with a whole week of Halloween events.

Halloweek is hosted by the high school’s student council, under the leadership of Emily Nguyen, and kicks off with a Halloween Dance on Friday, Oct. 25.

From 7 to 10 p.m., students and friends can dance to pop and rap music, play “Guess What’s in the Pumpkin,” pose for photos, and enjoy free food – chaperoned by staff. Costumes are encouraged.

Admission is $2 with a Student Activity Card, $5 without – or an equivalent amount of non-perishable food items, for the Helping Hand Food Bank.

The festivities continue on Monday, Oct. 28, with the annual Pumpkin Carving challenge in class, and a pie-eating contest at lunch. The pie is pumpkin, from local grocery stores, and the event is open to students and staff, for free.

On Tuesday, Oct. 29, there will be an “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” Special at lunch in the cafeteria.

Wednesday will include a Pumpkin Smash by students - and after school, students and staff members are welcome to watch the frightening movie “A Quiet Place,” in the cafeteria.

It all leads up to Halloween, on Oct. 31, when students and staff members are invited to dress up in their best and most creative costumes, to win points for their ‘house colour.’

“Student Council’s main purpose is to raise spirit at the school, by running school events like Halloweek,” said Emily Nguyen, “and to make everyone feel like they belong. We want them to actually enjoy their school experience.”

Happy Halloween from Bradford District High School!
