NEWS RELEASE
STEVENSON MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

With COVID-19 infection rates declining in the province and in our community, Stevenson Memorial Hospital (SMH) is starting to ease its visitor restrictions. Starting Monday, June 21, 2021 SMH will begin allowing one visitor per day in their Emergency and Medical/Surgical (Inpatient) Departments.

“We understand how difficult it has been for patients and families to not have the presence of family and loved ones at the bedside,” says Carrie Jeffreys, VP Clinical Services and CNE, SMH. “As always, we are committed to ensuring the needs of patients and families are met, in a safe manner.”

Although visitors will be welcomed into the hospital, there is a policy in place that required to be followed. One visitor per day is permitted during the following timeslots (one timeslot per day):

  • 12 noon – 2 p.m.
  • 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.
  • 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Inpatients and their substitute decision-makers can choose a maximum of two essential visitors to rotate over the patient’s stay; however, only one essential visitor is permitted to stay each day and during their chosen time slot.

Visitors must be at least 16 years of age, free of any COVID-19 symptoms or any other communicable disease, must not have travelled anywhere outside of Canada in the last 14 days and must not have tested positive for COVID-19, been exposed to anyone with COVID-19 or has had direct contact with anyone who has tested positive and have not been cleared by Public Health.

A designated support person will continue to be permitted for the following patients:

  • obstetrics patients in labour
  • patients 18-years-old and younger
  • patients with cognitive impairments
  • palliative patients
  • clergy support for admitted patients
  • supporting surgical patients in transition out of the hospital
