Town encourages residents to take part in worldwide 'Jingle' on Christmas Eve

The Town of Bradford is encouraging residents to ring bells for two-minutes from their front porches at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve

In the spirit of the holidays, the Town of Bradford is encouraging residents to ring bells for two-minutes from their front porches at 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve to help spread some cheer.

The town’s bell will also ‘chime’ at 6 p.m. along with the Trinity Anglican Church bells.

The idea started from a simple Facebook group that was created by a community in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England, with the news spreading quickly reaching as far as the United States, Canada, Australia, and the UK.

The main reason behind the idea is to create something magical for children all over the world after experiencing the hardships that stemmed from the pandemic.

Bradford resident Cheryl Kelly-Guest from Cruise Holidays shared the idea with the town after her neighbourhood all agreed to take part in the event on Christmas Eve, ringing bells from each front porch on Orsi Avenue.

“It puts a smile on my face just thinking about it!” shares Kelly-Guest. “It is an activity that includes EVERYONE no matter the religion, race, or financial situation!”

Kelly-Guest adds that this time of year can be difficult for many, noting all the businesses that have been forced to shut down due to the pandemic and those who have lost their jobs with no source of income. It has also been emotionally trying for seniors who are particularly vulnerable and alone this time of year, and for those who have lost loved ones in 2020.

The Worldwide Christmas Eve Jingle of 2020 will be a way to bring some much-needed holiday cheer to the town and honour those who cannot be with us during the holidays.
