For 15-year-old Olivia Deane, karate practice six days a week at the Jennings School of Karate has more than paid off.

Last month, Deane won Gold at the Jr. Pan American Karate Championships, in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

Deane competed in Kumite – a form of sparring against an opponent – as part of the Canadian Jr. National Karate Team. The team won six medals in total, two of them Gold.

Back in Bradford, Deane received special recognition in the Sept. 17 meeting of Town Council. Mayor Rob Keffer, joined by Coun. Peter Ferragine, presented a certificate of achievement to the young athlete.

“We are proud to have you in our municipality,” Mayor Keffer told the teen, in front of a full house.
