Volunteers honoured for 'invaluable' event, leisure program help

Town of Bradford hosts annual 'BWG APPreciates you' event April 17

The unsung heroes of Bradford's community events and leisure activities got their moment in the spotlight April 17.

In celebration of National Volunteer Week, which runs April 21 to 27, the town hosted the "BWG APPreciates you" recognition event. This function, held at the BWG Leisure Centre Wednesday night, honoured volunteers who played a vital role in supporting town-run events and leisure programs over the past year.

“(The) week is an opportunity to thank and recognize the extraordinary efforts of local volunteers,” Mayor James Leduc said in a statement. “These individuals dedicate so much time and effort towards our community and I am honoured to recognize their invaluable contributions during our third annual appreciation event.”

Established in 2017, the town’s event volunteer program allows locals to assist with various initiatives hosted by the municipality including Canada Day, Carrot Fest and the Santa Claus parade. Program volunteers assist with event set-up and dismantling, help kids with crafts, track attendance, distribute information and collect survey data.

Due to the program’s success, Bradford has been able provide a higher level of service at these events.

“Volunteering matters and we are so appreciative of the fitness and events volunteers that dedicate their time and effort to the town,” leisure events and marketing programmer Tasha Bain said.

In 2023, volunteers participated in more than a dozen community events and contributed over 750 hours to the municipality, she said.
