June is National Seniors Month.

To celebrate, the Danube Seniors Leisure Centre will be hosting another Senior and Caregiver Wellness Fair, in partnership with Community and Home Assistance to Seniors (CHATS).

On June 14 from 10 a.m. to noon, seniors and caregivers are invited to the Danube Centre at 715 Simcoe Rd. for a morning of displays, information, and door prizes.

Guest speaker is Fire Prevention Inspector Andrew McPherson with the Bradford West Gwillimbury Fire and Emergency Services, who will be discussing fire safety for seniors.

Last year, 12 information booths were set up, including displays by care providers and agencies. For 2018, said organizer Jan Evans, 16 information providers have signed up.

“We had to stop at 16 this year — space is limited!”

Among the community partners expected are the Central Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), Southlake Regional Health Centre, Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County, Accessibility Resource Centre, and the Downsizing Diva, an organization that aims to help seniors move with “grace, dignity and humour.”

The Royal Canadian Legion in Bradford will also be there to reach out to veterans and their families, and the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library will highlight its programs for adults and seniors.

While much of the information is geared to seniors, there is also information that will be important to any caregiver, said Linda Ind of CHATS.

“There’s really something for everybody,” she said.

Admission to the fair is free. A soup-and-sandwich lunch will be available afterward for $5.
