The last day of regular classes at Bradford District High School came and went on Wednesday, marking the start of final exams which can be a stressful time for students.
That is why the high school held a year-end carnival -- planned and paid for by the student council -- on June 18.
“It’s a good way for kids to blow off some steam,” said teacher Jenn Brake, noting the food was prepared by the hospitality program students at BDHS, and teaching staff volunteered beside student council members to man the various booths and rides.
“It’s nice because it really is school-wide,” said Brake. “Every staff has volunteered for a shift. It’s a nice way for them to interact with students outside the classroom.”
“We do this every year,” said Grade 12 student and student council member Curtis Chambers – taking whatever funds are left at the end of the school year from the sale of student cards to fund the inflatables, games, freezies, burgers, sno cones and cotton candy at the carnival.
“Everybody has a blast,” he said.
As a Grade 12 student, Chambers will be attending the University of Toronto this fall to study life sciences, so this was his final carnival.
And with finals starting, Chambers admitted, “I could be studying… but this is good. It’s a refreshing break!"
Students worked their way through an inflatable obstacle course, played human foosball, took a spinner challenge, and gorged on cotton candy and sno cones – leaving final exams and summer break to another day, as they had fun with their friends.
