In a riveting showdown that had fans on the edge of their seats, Metro Electric faced off against Century 21 in the highly anticipated final of the Bradford Farmers Hockey League on Saturday, Aug. 19.

Despite a strong start and an early lead, Metro Electric couldn't hold off Century 21's relentless offensive pressure, resulting in a 7-3 victory for the latter.  

The game kicked off with a burst of energy as Metro Electric's captain, Pete King, showcased his leadership on the ice by notching an impressive pair of goals in the opening period. The crowd roared in approval as King's skilful plays gave Metro Electric the upper hand and put them in control of the scoreboard. 

However, as the game progressed, Century 21 showed their resilience and determination, slowly building momentum and applying consistent pressure on Metro Electric's defense.

The turning point came with a series of well co-ordinated plays that led to three crucial goals for Century 21, each one celebrated by their fans in the stands. 

Veteran forward Froats spearheaded Century 21's comeback bid, showing his experience by converting a well-timed assist into a powerful shot that found the back of the net. This goal breathed new life into Century 21's efforts and shifted the momentum in their favour. 

Mashinter followed up with a precise shot that showcased his accuracy and offensive prowess. Goulet's goal sealed the deal for Century 21, capping off their impressive comeback and securing their victory in the league final. 

Despite their best efforts, Metro Electric struggled to regain the lead after Century 21's surge of goals. The final minutes of the game saw a flurry of activity as Metro Electric pushed hard to catch up, but Century 21's solid defensive play and goaltending proved to be the deciding factor.  

As the final buzzer sounded, the players from both teams exchanged handshakes, displaying the sportsmanship and camaraderie that define the essence of competitive sports. Though Metro Electric came up short, their valiant effort and early lead demonstrated their skill and determination throughout the season. Also, missing five key players didn’t help matters.   

Fans in the arena and those following from afar witnessed a thrilling championship match that highlighted the intensity and excitement of the Bradford Farmers Hockey League. Century 21's triumph serves as a testament to their teamwork and ability to rise to the occasion when it mattered most. 

The Bradford Farmers Hockey League final will be remembered as a clash of talents, emotions and sheer determination. As the players head into the off-season, the memories of this gripping showdown will undoubtedly fuel their dedication to the sport, setting the stage for another exhilarating season to come. 

Later in the evening, at the banquet hosted at Perfect Szn, more hardware was handed out. This year's Rookie of the Year went to Jon Kit, the Founder Award was shared by Grant Robinson and Brandon Cooper, and the League MVP went to Metro Electric's Eric King, who scored an impressive OT winner in the semifinals to advance his team to the big game. Best Defenseman was awarded to Brett Reid. 

Men’s hockey is alive in well in the town of Bradford. Another great season, gentleman.
