York Region will be in the international spotlight when the 2019 LPGA Canadian Women's Open comes to Aurora this summer.

The LPGA Canadian Women's Open will be held at Magna Golf Club Aug. 19 to 25 — the only Canadian stop on the LPGA tour, Laurence Applebaum, CEO of Golf Canada, officially announced to York Regional Council at its May 16 meeting.

Bringing together more than 90 of the top 100 LPGA tour players, including 15 Canadians, the event is set to gain widespread media attention and projected to have an economic impact of more than $15 million.

More than 500 million viewers from around the world are expected to follow the Canadian Women’s Open.
