A smashed door window at a business on Barrie View Drive was just one part of a destructive spree an Alliston man went on in Barrie's south end on Wednesday night. He faces numerous criminal charges.

An Alliston man was arrested last night in Barrie’s south end after police say he left a trail of damage, beginning with garbage cans and ending with smashed windows and numerous criminal charges.

Just after 7:30 p.m. on April 10, police officers responded to a call about man acting in a disorderly manner in a southwest Barrie business park.

Initially, the man was reportedly throwing garbage in the parking lot near 37 Caplan Ave., according to police.

He was then observed throwing a garbage can lid at a parked car, and later punching the passenger-side rear fender of the car, leaving two dents in the vehicle.

The man then made his way to Barrie View Drive where police say he arrived at a closed business and proceeded to pick up bricks and rocks, which he threw at the doors and windows.

“The resulting broken glass afforded him the opportunity to continue in his mischievous ways, as he discharged a fire extinguisher inside the store,” police said in a news release.

This act caused Barrie firefighters to respond, as reports were received the store may have been ablaze.

At 7:44 p.m., responding officers, who were provided with detailed information about the suspect’s whereabouts, located him in the parking lot of a Bryne Drive business where he was taken into custody and later transported to police headquarters.

The 31-year-old man has been charged with break and enter, mischief under $5,000, mischief over $5,000 and failure to comply with a probation order.

He was later released and is scheduled to appear in Barrie court on May 22.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.

“Barrie police wish to thank the concerned citizens who contacted our service and provided details of what was taking place in southwest Barrie last night,” stated the news release. “Descriptions of the male’s behaviour, clothing and direction of travel all assisted with him being taken into custody and held accountable for his actions.”
