Arrest made in Cookstown sexual assault investigation

INNISFIL - A 23-year-old Brampton man was charged following an investigation into a sexual assault at the Tanger Outlets in Cookstown.

On Monday, Oct. 14, 2019, a female employee at a store reported to South Simcoe Police Service that she had been sexually assaulted by a customer at the mall located on County Road 89 near Highway 400. The incident involved unwanted touching and the victim was not physically injured.

As a result of investigation, a suspect was identified. On Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020, a man attended South Division and was placed under arrest.

Twenty-three-year-old Chanpreet Singh Padda of Brampton was charged with one count of sexual assault. He was released with conditions and a future court date.

A sexual assault includes any non-consensual contact of a sexual nature. South Simcoe Police Service would like to encourage anyone who feels they may have been a victim of a sexual assault to come forward and report the incident to police.
