Barrie man accused driving more than 60 km/h over the speed limit in Innisfil

INNISFIL -  A 22-year-old Barrie man was charged with speeding and stunt driving following a traffic stop in Innisfil.

On Friday, Jan. 31, 2020, around 4:00 p.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer conducting speed enforcement on Yonge Street near Stroud observed a northbound vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed. 

The vehicle was tracked through an 80 km/h zone into a 50 zone at speeds in excess of 60 kilometres of the posted speed limit. 

A traffic stop was conducted and a 22-year-old Barrie man was charged with speeding and stunt driving. His licence was suspended for seven days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

He was released with a future court date.

Speed kills. 27 per cent of fatalities and 19% of serious injuries involve speeding.  40 per cent of speeding drivers involved in fatal crashes were 16 to 24 years of age. Slow down and arrive alive.
