Barrie man charged with impaired driving on Innisfil Beach Road

Driver was pulled over after numerous erratic driving complaints

On Wednesday, June 16, 2021, at approximately 1:30 p.m., the South Simcoe Police Service was called regarding a possible impaired driver.

The vehicle had prompted numerous calls for erratic driving on Highway 400 and had exited the highway going eastbound on Innisfil Beach Road. Police conducted a vehicle stop and the driver was arrested and transported to North Division.

As a result of the investigation, 33-year-old Derick Breau of Barrie was charged with operation while impaired by drug and dangerous operation. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days. He was released with a future court date.

Impaired is impaired, regardless of whether it is a prescribed medication, cannabis or another drug.  Any substance that changes your mental state and provides a high, decreases driving performance by decreasing awareness of distance, timing and depth perception.
