'Be careful': South Simcoe police respond to 3 crashes Tuesday morning

No one injured in reported collisions, but one motorist involved in a rollover was charged with careless driving, police say

A little snowfall kept South Simcoe police busy, but not buried, by work Tuesday morning.

Officers responded to three separate collisions Nov. 28 after about 6 a.m., as snow squalls blanketed the area. That includes a single-vehicle rollover on County Road 27, between Line 8 and Highway 88, at about 9:30 a.m. The motorist was charged with careless driving.

A fourth collision was reported early this afternoon.

None of the collisions reported to police resulted in injuries, a department spokesperson told InnisfilToday

The snowfall also forced the Simcoe County Student Transportation Consortium to cancel buses throughout much of the region, including Bradford, Innisfil and New Tecumseth.

A snow squall warning from Environment Canada remains in effect, with accumulation of between 10 and 20 centimetres expected by this evening in an area of southern Simcoe County that includes Innisfil, New Tecumseth and Angus. Intense snowfall rates of up to five centimetres per hour are possible at times and there could be reduced visibility and heavy and blowing snow.

“Visibility will be suddenly reduced to near zero at times in heavy snow and blowing snow,” the weather agency said on its website Nov. 28. “Rapidly accumulating snow could make travel difficult over some locations. Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve.”

Earlier this month, the OPP warned drivers in multiple posts on X, the social-media platform formerly known as Twitter, to get prepared for the winter months by selecting appropriate tires, installing effective wiper blades and leaving enough space between themselves and other vehicles during travel.

“It’s that time of year,” Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in one of the posts. “Just be careful out there. Make sure you get to where you’re going safely. Be ready for winter weather anytime.”
