A Bradford man is facing charges after police say he fled from a traffic stop May 22 in Brampton.

Peel Regional Police officers were patrolling the area of Kenview Boulevard and Castleview Road, a known location for street racing. They tried to stop a white Audi Q5, but the driver fled at a high rate of speed and escaped, police said in a news release.

The driver was later identified as Nicholas Costa Azevedo, 24. He was arrested Wednesday and charged with dangerous operation, flight from a peace officer, racing a motor vehicle, and operating a motor vehicle on a highway with no insurance.

The vehicle was seized and the accused was released with conditions. He is set to appear in court July 10.

Police ask anyone with information about the incident to call investigators with the Safer Roads Team at 905-453–2121, ext. 3750. Anonymous tips can be provided to Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or peelcrimestoppers.ca.
