CONCORD- A joint Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) investigation has led to charges against a Greater Toronto Area resident.
This eight-month investigation stems from the previous arrest of Toronto resident, Omari Kutaladze, for importing nearly 50 kilograms of cocaine into Canada on Nov. 19, 2017 at the Queenston-Lewiston Bridge Commercial Operations. Kutaldze was arrested after CBSA officers and a detector dog team discovered and seized 50 packages of cocaine concealed inside several cardboard boxes containing plastic resin pellets. .
The ensuing investigation from this seizure and arrest has led to the identification of co-conspirator Dmitri Davidov (41 years of age) of Bradford, Ontario. On July 25, 2018, RCMP officers arrested Davidov and charged him with:
- Conspiracy to commit an indictable offence of importing cocaine, contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada.
Davidov has been remanded into custody and appeared in court on July 26, 2018 for a bail hearing at the St. Catharines’ court house.
“Anytime we can get illegal drugs, off our streets, making our community safer, it’s a great thing!”, said Inspector Ann Koenig, Officer in Charge Hamilton Niagara RCMP. “This investigation highlights how partnerships are essential in the fight against serious and organized crime.”
“The result of this investigation demonstrates the effective partnership that the CBSA has with the RCMP and the commitment we share in keeping illicit drugs out of our communities,” said Joe McMahon, Director, Enforcement and Intelligence Division, Southern Ontario Region, Canada Border Services Agency.
