Brampton man accused of insurance fraud in New Tecumseth

Police say the accused received money for insurance, but the vehicle has been uninsured for almost a year

TOWN OF NEW TECUMSETH, ADJALA-TOSORONTIO & ESSA TOWNSHIPS - In March 2021, members of the Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) commenced an investigation into an insurance fraud in Tottenham, New Tecumseth.

The victim met the accused, an insurance broker in 2018, to obtain insurance for a vehicle. Since that date, money has been regularly e-transferred for the insurance. During recent inquiries with a new company, the victim learned that the vehicle had been uninsured since July of 2019.

At this time a second victim has also come forward with the same complaint and accused.

As a result of the investigation, on Wednesday, May, 19, 2021, Daniel Conrado, 35 years old of Brampton, Ont., was charged with:

  • Fraud over, contrary to s.380(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (C.C.C) - three counts;
  • Use, deals, acts on forged document, contrary to s.368(1)(b) of the C.C.C - two counts; and
  • Failure to comply with undertaking, contrary to s.145(4)(a) of the C.C.C

The accused has been held pending a bail hearing.

Investigators believe that there may be more victims and would like the public to be aware of this investigation and the accused. Anyone who has knowledge of similar incidents involving Conrado, or who have been victimized, are asked to come forward to their nearest police service.
