UPDATE:
Orillia OPP remain tight-lipped about a deceased body found near the Orillia waterfront Tuesday morning.
When asked this afternoon for more details, Orillia OPP Const. Brett Boniface said the body was found by a construction worker, and the coroner has begun carrying out their investigation.
Nothing appears suspicious about the death, he said.
“There's nothing at this point that's deeming it to be suspicious. The scene was released by the coroner, and we're not holding the scene (anymore),” Boniface said.
ORIGINAL STORY:
A deceased body was found near the Centennial Drive construction site this morning, and the OPP are asking residents to avoid the area.
OPP received a call at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, said Orillia OPP Cst. Brett Boniface.
“(The call) came in as an ambulance assist, and the person is deceased,” Boniface told OrilliaMatters. “It is an ongoing investigation, and we ask people to avoid the area.”
Boniface said the OPP will be in touch with the coroner as it carries out the investigation.
Boniface could not provide any details about the deceased person at this time.
