Citizen report leads to arrest of drunk driving suspect

A 36-year-old Innisfil man was arrested when police detected odour of alcohol and other signs of impairment

INNISFIL - On Thursday, May 7, 2020 around 8:30 p.m., a citizen called South Simcoe Police Service to report a possible impaired driver on 10th Sideroad in Innisfil.

Police conducted a traffic stop and detected an odour of alcohol and other signs of impairment. The driver was arrested for impaired operation and transported to North Division. 

Thirty-six-year-old Nikita Malyshev of Innisfil was charged with impaired operation and failure or refusal to comply with demand for breath test.

His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for seven days.

Impaired driving is a crime in progress. If you spot a suspected impaired driver, safely call 911 and we will respond. Because of this citizen's diligence, we were able to keep our roads safe for everyone. Thank you for working with us!
