Commercial driver fined when inspection reveals defective brakes

Police say three out of four of the brakes were severely worn down and the emergency brake didn't work at all

A commercial motor vehicle has been ordered off the road after a traffic stop revealed the vehicle unfit for the road.

On Monday, Nov. 25, 2019, around 8:30 a.m., a South Simcoe Police Service officer conducted a commercial motor vehicle inspection on Highway 88 near Highway 400.  

Three of four brakes on the vehicle were severely worn down, the emergency brake didn't work at all and broke on application. The vehicle's licence plate was removed and the driver and company were charged with a number of infractions:

  • Failure to enter defect in daily inspection report
  • Improper braking system
  • Fail to ensure performance standards are met
  • Motor vehicle without required inspection

Total fines are over $1,200.
