Dogged police work results in an arrest, returns leaf blower to owner

On Thursday, July 26, 2018, South Simcoe Police Service Street Crime Unit officers arrested a 38-year-old Bradford man in connection with a theft investigation. 

The theft occurred on July 17, 2018 around 12:30 p.m. from a vehicle at a Barrie St. restaurant parking lot. The victim reported that a large, backpack leaf blower was stolen from the back of his pickup truck. 

Through investigation, officers were able to identify a suspect in connection with the theft and made an arrest.

The suspect is charged with theft under $5,000, possession of stolen property, fraud and breach of recognizance. He was released with a future court date. 

The stolen leaf blower was recovered and is now back in its owner's hands. 

This investigation is a great example of how dogged police work can bring results. We encourage citizens not to make it easy for thieves. 

You can help reduce your risk of being a victim by following these guidelines: 

  • Always lock your vehicle 
  • Never leave items of value in your vehicle and in plain sight 
  • Never leave an unattended vehicle running 
  • Never leave a spare set of vehicle keys in your vehicle 
  • Park in a well-lit area 
  • Record the make, model and serial numbers of all your property items. This information can be provided to the police if you do become a victim in order to help police locate and recover your property.
