Aurora OPP investigated a serious single-vehicle collision that occurred Saturday on Highway 400 at Highway 89 in Cookstown.
Police arrived at the scene of an incident at about 5 a.m. at the intersection of Highway 400 and the off-ramp of Highway 89, where a driver and his vehicle were in a ditch.
“The driver lost control, crashed his car, as you can tell in the pictures, and Aurora OPP responded to that,” said Const. Nicola Morris. “The driver was charged with multiple offences, including impaired driving.”
Police said a 36-year-old man from Barrie was arrested and charged with impaired driving, failing to stop, having no licence, obstructing a peace officer, and no insurance. He received a 90-day licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impound.
Open cans of alcohol were in the vehicle, police said.
Emergency medical services attended the scene, though the driver did not sustain any injuries.
“Nobody was transported to the hospital. He was the only occupant of the vehicle,” said Morris.
The vehicle was impounded despite the damage to it.
