Drug impaired driving charge laid in New Tecumseth

NEW TECUMSETH - On Jan. 24, 2020, at approximately 10:41 p.m., members of Nottawasaga Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a traffic complaint regarding a vehicle travelling on Highway 89 in the Town of New Tecumseth.

Officers successfully located the motor vehicle. The driver was investigated for impaired driving and subsequently arrested.

Matthew Whelan, 28-years-old, from Ingersoll, has been charged with drug impaired driving resulting in a 90-day licence suspension and seven-day vehicle impound.

The accused is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bradford on the Feb. 13, 2020.

Anyone who suspects an impaired driver by either alcohol or drug is encouraged to call 9-1-1 and report it.
