A Newmarket home was broken into early this morning and the occupants were threatened with a firearm, according to York Regional Police.

A resident of the home, located in the area of Mulock Drive and Yonge Street, said that five males broke into the home on Sept. 26 and took various items, including wallets and other valuables, before one of the suspects discharged a firearm, police said.

York Regional Police were called to the residence at about 2 a.m., Tuesday, after the suspects had fled in a dark-coloured SUV.

Nobody was hurt during the home invasion, but the police are seeking the suspects, who were wearing surgical masks and hoodies during the break-in.

Police said that in light of recent concerns regarding home invasions in the community, they are urging residents to prioritize safety and take proactive measures to secure homes and loved ones.

Police are also advising residents to adopt safety tips, such as locking all entry points, installing high-quality locks or a security system, knowing their neighbours, and having an emergency plan.

The investigation is ongoing.

Investigators are asking anyone with video surveillance or dash-cam footage in the area around the time of the incident to contact police.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 6630, or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS, leave an anonymous tip online at www.1800222tips.com.
